Waxcap genus (Hygrophoraceae)
A tiny, vivid scarlet-to-orange mushroom growing singly on a moss-covered fallen log/root. Cap about 1 cm across, smooth, faintly waxy and glossy when moist; stem slender. The bright red color and waxy texture point to the waxcap genus Hygrocybe (Hygrophoraceae). A single red spark amid the green forest moss.
To confirm: Whether the gills are decurrent/adnate and waxy, presence of any viscidity, whether the flesh blackens when bruised (the H. conica group blackens), and confirming a white spore print. Substrate (soil vs. wood/moss) helps narrow the species.
